Check it out! Our next Theology on Tap gathering is tomorrow at 7 pm at the Granite City Food & Brewery.

Father Jeremy Ploof, parochial vicar of St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Augustine Parish and Christ Church Newman Center in St. Cloud, will present a talk on “After the Resurrection.” Father Ploof will explain what happened to the disciples after the resurrection, what happened to Jesus and how exactly Jesus’s resurrection saved us.

After the presentation, come back and let us know what you thought and share your reaction.

This months topic "Conversion & the Power of the Rosary" will be presented by Michael Brixius.

Michael is going to be sharing how it was through the Rosary that his conversion back to Christ and the Catholic Church began. He will also be sharing how the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, intercessory prayer and fellowship are key for staying connected to Christ.

This is going to be a talk straight from the heart!

Next Theology On Tap, Tuesday September 11th

Anthony Buhl will present his talk entitled, "Four Inescapable Questions of Life" at the next Theology On Tap.

The great debate (some might say the "great personal struggle”) that is now taking place in Western culture is really about answering a few foundational questions about what we believe life to be, its origin, its nature, its moral structure, and its final purpose. As St. Augustine noted, the inescapable choice is either to accept God, or to deny Him; to either live in the City of God or opt for the City of Man. Not to choose, is to choose. Which ever choice one makes requires a very different, and logically consistent set of answers to the four questions, all of which result in a very different kind of life for the chooser.

This is sure to be an interesting and fruitful talk. The next Theology On Tap is Tuesday September 11th at Granite City Food & Brewery beginning at 7pm. Remember to bring an appetite for food fellowship! See you there!

Next Theology On Tap, Tuesday August 14th

This months topic of Canon Law will be presented by Fr. Aaron Kuhn. Canon law is the theology of the Church put into practice, i.e., how to run a diocese or how to run a parish. It covers the basic requirements of being a Catholic, as well as the extensive details of marriage law and annulments, and much, much more. This is sure to be an important and educational Theology On Tap.

This months Theology On Tap is on Tuesday June 12th at Granite City Food & Brewery starting at 7pm. We are blessed to have two speakers on one very important topic: Marriage. Fr. Tom Knoblach, PhD is Consultant to the Diocese of Saint Cloud for Health Care Ethics and is the pastor of Holy Spirit, St. Anthony's and St John Cantius Parishes in St. Cloud. Chris Codden is the Director of the Office of Marriage and Family for the Diocese of St Cloud and consultant to the USCCB's secretariat for Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth. Both Fr Tom and Chris have been appointed by Bishop Kinney as spokespersons for the Strengthening Marriage Initiative and Marriage Amendment education for the diocese. They will present the diocesan plan for both initiatives and lead discussion. This is sure to be a very important and educational Theology On Tap. We hope to see you all there. Our speaker for May is Fr. John Paul Knopik. Since May in the month of Mary, he will be speaking about the Blessed Virgin Mary and her role in our salvation, her helping hand in leading us closer to her son Jesus and the spirituality of St. Loius de Montfort. This months speaker is Taylor Morgan, who works at Saint John’s School of Theology·Seminary in formation and outreach. He will speak about the creation and mission of The Saint John’s Bible and then describe the ancient prayer form of lectio divina, and how it has been adapted into a way of praying with sacred artwork such as that of The Saint John’s Bible.

Next Theology On Tap, Tuesday March 13th

Tuesday March 13th is our next get together. This months speaker is Shelly Vaske. She is the Catholic Relief Services Fair Trade Ambassador in the St. Cloud Diocese. She was trained by CRS on the aspects of fair trade goods and is one of about 100 people in the nation who have been. These ambassadors give presentations to groups and, of course, sell fair trade goods. They encourage parishes to use fair trade coffee at church functions.

February 14th is our next get together. Yes, it's Valentine's Day, but this is a special day. Our speaker is Mary Jo Ruhland from 40 Days for Life - A focused pro-life effort that consists of 40 days of prayer and fasting, 40 days of peaceful vigil, and 40 days of community outreach. Mary Jo will be discussing her work with 40 Days for Life and the topic of abortion.

Mary Jo is amazing, the vigils are powerful, and I can't wait for everyone to learn more.

Valentine's Day is the holiday of LOVE, so come show your support with an hour of Love. You'll be glad you came.

December 13th is our next get together. Cara Sandquist, CSB alumna and local educator, will be speaking about her former volunteer work in Tanzania. Having lived and worked in an African Benedictine convent for 9 months, Cara served the sisters of Imiliwaha, Tanzania, focusing on the children housed at the local sister-run orphanage. She will share her experience working in a faithful yet impoverished community, and also the role the Catholic church plays in the Tanzanian society.

Next Theology On Tap, Tuesday October 11th

October 11th is our next get together. Larry Tillemans, United States Army typist (retired) will be presenting, "Remembering the Holocaust".

Larry was a typewriter clerk for the US Army in the war crime trials at Dachau and Nuremberg during the second world war. Larry is the last "living" typist form the trials.

He will be speaking about his experiences in the trials and the importance of never forgetting the Holocaust.

He will also be speaking on the power of prayer and the role it has played in his life.

I am very excited to have Larry join us. He is a great man who is always filled with joy.

An overview:
In the history of women leaders in the church there are a number of women, who served as presiders of house churches in the first generations of Christianity. In the next era after Christianity was approved as a religion of the empire, women called “ammas” emerged as leaders of prayer groups, Bible study groups, spiritual directors and leaders of ascetical/monastic communities. After an opening overview on some of these significant women and their contributions, implications of these contributions can be explored and dialogued.
